Whoosh: Lonnie Johnson's Super Soaking Stream of Inventions  was one of Horn Books Best Informational Books of 2016, and I can see why. Lonnie Johnson is an African American boy who loves to create and make things in his family's small house. Lonnie overcomes academic and social diversity to finally make one of the funnest inventions for children. A wonderful message of not giving up and to keep trying!! :) This picture book is a must read for all kids, and I cannot wait to read it to students at the Bluebonnet Breakfast Club in the fall. They will love it. Here is the annotation from the Bluebonnet website:

Despite a test telling him it wasn’t his strength, “Lonnie wanted to spend his life designing things, building things, and getting them to work.” Then one day, he accidentally invented the Super Soaker! From NASA engineer to toy inventor, Lonnie Johnson never gave up on his dreams and passions. In this biography, discover Lonnie Johnson’s undefeated determination, his many inventions, and be inspired to make a splash and follow your own dreams!
